Stormzy has pleaded guilty to driving a Lamborghini with illegally tinted windows.

The London rapper – real name Michael Ebenazer Owuo Jr. – submitted a guilty plea yesterday (July 24), after driving the Urus around Kingston upon Thames on October 17 last year.

The minimum requirement for cars in the UK is to allow 70 percent of light through the two front windows. However, BBC reported that the artist’s £200k sports car only let through four per cent – dark enough to “involve a danger of injury to any person”.

Stormzy indicated the guilty plea, but did not attend yesterday’s hearing at the Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court.

According to BBC, this isn’t the first time that the ‘Big For Your Boots’ rapper has found himself in legal trouble for his cars.

It has also been alleged that he was caught using a hand-held phone while driving his ÂŁ250k Rolls-Royce Wraith earlier this year. As per the reports, he was spotted on the phone at around 3:30pm on March 7, driving Addison Road, West Kensington.

The Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court adjourned the case until October 16.

News of the guilty plea regarding the tinted windows arrives just days after the rapper confirmed his split from Maya Jama via an Instagram story. The two originally started dating in 2014, but called it quits in 2019; they reunited in August last year.

Taking to social media, the duo began: “Hey guys, we’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.”

They then explained that they’ve spent “this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits,” adding: “We were 21 and 20 when we first met – both at the beginning of our careers – and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning. We tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s OK.”

In other Stormzy news, the artist recently revealed that he’s “just been creating” for the past two years to come up with the follow-up to 2022’s ‘This Is What I Mean’. He has also joined forces with Adidas to announce a new #MerkyFC HQ centre for football, music and gaming.
