Suki Waterhouse has opened up about the aftermath of her “isolating and disorientating” breakup with Bradley Cooper in a new interview.
The pair broke up in 2015 after two years of dating and in a new interview in British Vogue‘s August issue, Waterhouse spoke about the challenges of the split.
The Daisy Jones & The Six actress explained: “I really will say that I’m pretty strong at this point, but when something very public happens to you and the story behind it is dark and difficult, and you’re actually not doing well, and you can’t explain yourself to the world, that’s very isolating and disorientating.
“It probably has taken a decade to work myself out and actually be able to have this expansion in my life.”
Waterhouse went on to say heartbreak “always stays in you” before explaining how her dating life changed in her twenties.
She continued: “Your 20s are pretty sadistic. The love I experienced [then] was only ever a fetishisation, and I think when you only get loved in that way, you only get punished,” the singer and actress told British Vogue.
“When you get into your 30s you’re almost instantly afforded a little bit more respect. It’s kind of delightful and shocking at the same time.”
Waterhouse met her now fiancé Robert Pattinson in 2018 and the pair now have a child together.
The new album will be released on September 13 via Sub Pop and follows Waterhouse’s 2022 debut, ‘I Can’t Let Go’.
Speaking to NME, she explained how the predecessor saw her “writing a lot about a sort of sadistic love or a love where you’ve been fetishised so you can’t ever be vulnerable because you’re met with punishment through that”.
“This one is when you pick yourself up from being broken for a long time, and you’re like, ‘OK, what are we doing tonight?’,” she continued.
