Shania Twain praises Taylor Swift’s work ethic: “That girl is working her butt off”

Twain has been an avid Swift supporter, and attended the ‘Eras’ tour last year

Shania Twain has shared new praise for Taylor Swift – see what Twain had to say below.

In a new cover profile with Haute Living, Shania Twain talks about her trouble with accepting credit for the talent she was born with: “I wouldn’t say I’m proud of anything I’ve done. Pride is not a great word for me, because I don’t think you can take credit for creative gifts if you were born with them; you can only take credit for developing them. What I would say I’m proud of is that I had the courage to take risks, that I could be so hard-working and dedicated.”

In this sense, she likens herself to Taylor Swift, who she praised for her work ethic. “That girl is working her butt off. She is living an exhausting existence, but she’d dedicated and committed to herself, to her art, and her work. It isn’t even about ambition, though I’m sure that most people would call her ambitious,” Shania Twain said.

Twain went on to explain: “She’s an extremely hard worker, and I’m sure she’s got giant goals. But it’s not all about ambition: it’s about passion and committing yourself to your passion. [Like Taylor], I was and am someone who does that, and that’s what really reaps rewards. So, I would say that I’m most proud of my perseverance, and that I didn’t waste my talents.”

This isn’t the first time that Twain – who will be performing the legends’ slot at Glastonbury this year – has shown support for Taylor Swift. In 2022, Twain congratulated Swift after the latter broke Twain’s long-standing US chart record. Twain wrote on social media at the time: “Historical records are meant to be made and then broken. The baton is meant to be passed on to new generations. Unstoppable young female country artists are [flame emoji] inspite of the hurdles.”

Twain’s opinion of Taylor Swift notable juxtapose Courtney Love‘s recent comments about the pop singer. The Hole frontwoman recently slammed Taylor Swift, saying that she is “not important” and “not interesting as an artist”.

Speaking to The Standard in an interview recently, love shared “Taylor is not important. She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”

50 Cent supports Kesha changing ‘TiK ToK’ lyrics to “like fuck P Diddy” at Coachella

“PUFFY LIKE, ’50 TOLD HER TO SAY THAT!'”

NME

50 Cent has shown his support for Kesha, who changed the lyrics to her debut single ‘TiK ToK’ to insult Diddy while performing at Coachella this weekend.

Reneé Rapp brought out the Kesha last Sunday during her set at the California festival to sing her 2009 Number One song, which has the memorable opening line: “Woke up in the morning feeling like P Diddy.” While on stage, Kesha changed the lyrics to instead sing, “Wake up in the morning like fuck P Diddy”.

50 Cent – who has been vocal about his views on Diddy’s current legal troubles – found Kesha’s lyric change funny – telling his Twitter followers: “LOL! She said, [middle finger emoji] ‘Fuck P. Diddy’. HAHAAHAHA! [side eye emoji] PUFFY LIKE, ’50 TOLD HER TO SAY THAT!'”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been hit with several allegations since November 2023, when his ex-girlfriend Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura filed a lawsuit against him for sexual and physical abuse. The case was later settled out of court.

A week later, two new allegations by two different women also came out with one claiming that Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her and the other alleging that Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall took turns raping the plaintiff and her friend in 1990 or 1991 – with Diddy allegedly turning violent days later.

In the same month Cassie accused Diddy of rape and physical assault, Kesha changed the lyrics to ‘TiK ToK’ for the first time. At the Los Angeles stop of her ‘Only Love’ tour, she sang, “Wake up in the morning feeling just like me.”

Kesha also filed a lawsuit against her former boss Dr Luke, claiming he had sexually assaulted and emotionally abused her. He denied the allegations and countersued the artist, claiming she had breached the recording contract they had with one another and made up rape allegations in an attempt to get out of the deal. Last June, the pair reached a settlement in their defamation lawsuit just one month before the case was due to go to trial.

However, Kesha maintained her original claims and is now released from Dr Luke’s Kemosabe record label.

Elsewhere, producer Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones sued Combs in February for sexually assaulting him, having parties where sex workers and underage girls were present, and coercing him to sleep with prostitutes. Diddy replied, saying Jones’ claims were “pure fiction”.

Additionally, Diddy’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami were raided by US Homeland Security as a part of a sex trafficking investigation last month. An expert on the matter shared that the agency is looking into allegations that Combs had been drugging young women in multiple states. Combs denies any wrongdoing.

In other news, Kesha said that she is working on new music “ferociously” and has teased her next musical era in snippets she posted on social media.

Meanwhile, 50 Cent has confirmed he will be releasing a docuseries on Diddy’s sexual assault allegations called Diddy Do It? There is no release date for the project yet.

SZA will be honoured with the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards gala.

According to a press release, the Hal David Starlight Award is presented to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs.” The chart-topping singer will also become the second black woman to receive the honour – the last being Alicia Keys in 2005.

“This is such an exciting time for songwriters and music,” said Songwriters Hall of Fame chairman Nile Rodgers. “Phenomenal artists like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are pushing the envelope of what success looks like, but who could argue that the last two years belong to SZA. Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”

SZA reacted to the news online, writing in an Instagram story post: “This is THE most meaningful thing to me. You have NO idea. THANK YOU beyond words for seeing me at all.”

The event will take place on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, and will also honour this year’s inductees, including R.E.M., Steely Dan, Timbaland and more.

Non-performing writers Hilary Lindsey and Dean Pitchford will also be honoured for their contributions to country music and ’80s film soundtracks, respectively.

In another statement, Rodgers emphasised the importance of songwriters in the music industry, stating: “I’ve said it before, but the music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first. Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch… nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.

“We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally enriched music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”

Jade, Snoop Dogg and Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne were included in last year’s class of Songwriters Hall Of Fame inductees, alongside Gloria Estefan, Teddy Riley, Glen Ballard and Liz Rose.

Earlier this year, SZA shared that she was working on the deluxe version of her second studio album ‘SOS‘, which she has now expanded into another album called ‘Lana’. Last month, she spoke about the leaked songs that surfaced online, confirming that they were intended for her next release. She added that “‘Lana’ deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before,” so fans can expect to wait longer for the record.

The ‘Snooze’ singer also updated fans on her album, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “I want to allow it to finish shaping itself and form itself before I speak on it and possibly change the trajectory of what it could be. But, I will say, I’m in a beautiful space creatively and I feel just very new.”

In other news, SZA will be headlining Glastonbury Festival this year, marking her first-ever appearance at the Worthy Farm event. In addition, she will be performing at BST Hyde Park in London that same weekend before playing another huge gig at Dublin’s Malahide Castle on July 3 – check here for any available tickets.

TikTok rapper-producer reveals process behind viral A.I. Kendrick Lamar diss track

The song was thought to be Lamar’s real response to J. Cole and Drake’s respective diss tracks towards him

A TikTok rapper-producer has revealed he created the reeent viral Kendrick Lamar diss track.

On the 2023 single ‘First Person Shooter’, Drake compared himself to Michael Jackson as the two are now tied for the most Number One singles on the Billboard charts. Last month, Lamar took jabs at Drake on ‘Like That’ from Metro Boomin and Future’s first joint project, ‘We Don’t Trust You’ by likening himself to Prince – Jackson’s longtime rival. “Prince outlived Mike Jack’ N****, bum, ‘fore all your dogs gettin’ buried That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary,” he rapped.

Drake seemingly responded to Lamar on ‘Push Ups (Drop And Give Me 50)’ – a leaked diss track aimed at Lamar, Metro Boomin, Future and more. “This the bark with the bite, nigga, what’s up? / How the fuck you been steppin’ with a size seven mens on?” he added, alluding to the Californian’s fifth studio album ‘Mr Morale & The Big Steppers’.

Earlier this week, a snippet of a supposed diss track by Lamar surfaced online. In the song – known as ‘One Shot’ – the rapper said: “Utter my name three times in front of your mirror / You hesitate to proceed after you have to reconsider.” This has caused fans to think the lyrics were mostly aimed at J. Cole, who dropped a diss track called ‘7 Minute Drill’ aimed at Lamar in response to ‘Like That’. He soon said that he regretted the choice and removed it from streaming services.

The song turned out to be fake, with the TikToker SyTheRapper taking credit for making the A.I.-generated diss track. He uploaded a video on TikTok where he broke down how he made the track.

“First, you gotta get a beat that sounds like chaos and the world is ending,” he said before confirming that he “cooked up” the instrumental. Sy then showed himself recording the lyrics he wrote for the A.I. diss track.

At the end of the video, SyTheRapper admitted that he “shocked” himself: “I thought it was gon’ sound fake. I thought people were going to be able to tell it was fake, but people did actually think it was real.

“So, I just wanna come out for the record and say that it’s A.I. and it’s not Kendrick’s response. I know Kendrick gon’ come harder than that. I just couldn’t get too disrespectful because I ain’t in a beef.”

Although Lamar’s “diss track” was fake, Rick Ross has legitimately responded to Drake’s ‘Push Ups’ song. On the latter, the 6God mocked Ross’ age and finances, adding “Every song that made it on the chart, he got from Drizzy.”

So, Ross dropped ‘Champagne Moments’ on which he accused Drake of having a nose job and using ghostwriters. He also directly responded to the Canadian’s claims about needing him to chart: “Let you DM my hoe, but got bitches you can’t / Let you get on my songs, it was good for your face.”

Before ‘Push Ups’ was leaked, Joe Budden revealed that Lamar and Drake’s ongoing rap battle could be “nuclear”.

“Whatever little rap-y shit you thought was going on, it’s not that and something’s coming,” he began. “I have it on good information that both sides went in the booth and came out. And what I’m hearing about both sides is that it’s nuclear. It’s up, up. I’m hearing this from people that can rap. So I wanna come in here and say that speculation time is over. Debate time is over.”

Legendary black metal site Neseblod Records in Norway damaged by fire

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the cost of the damages

Neseblod Records, the famous black metal site in Norway has been damaged by a fire according to reports.

As noted in Verdens Gang (VG), the iconic record store and venue space caught fire on April 9 and the surrounding apartments in the area were also evacuated due to the amount of smoke the fire caused.

The cause of the fire is as yet unknown; police received a report of a fire by a witness who saw flames in the basement of the property.

The cause of the fire is now currently under investigation.

The basement of the famed store was also a black metal museum of sorts. The venue’s owner, Kenneth Neseblod said: “Much of what we have is only on display and not for sale. It’s a museum-like venue at the same time as a record store. We have records, cassettes and tape trading letters that were previously used to write to each other in the metal community.”

A GoFundMe page to help Neseblod Records recover from the damage caused by the fire has now been set up.

The person who set up the page, called Darren, said: “I have been working with many Norwegian Black Metal bands over the years and Neseblod Records (Formerly Helvete) in the heart of Oslo, it has been part of the scene since the beginning of this unique musical movement, and is the heart and spirit of the genre,” the description reads.

“A fire ripped through the basement and shop last night destroying an archive of rare Black Metal History!, I am starting this Go Fund Me to help Kenneth get back on his feet.”

Over £22,000 has been raised via the page at the time of writing.

Watch Tyler, The Creator respond to Jerrod Carmichael’s crush on him

The moment aired in the first episode of Jerrod Carmichael’s new show

The post Watch Tyler, The Creator respond to Jerrod Carmichael’s crush on him appeared first on NME.

NME

Tyler, The Creator has responded to Jerrod Carmichael’s crush on him – watch the moment below.

In the premiere episode of the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show, the comedian confessed to having a crush on Tyler, one of his long-time friends.

Carmichael recalled expressing his love for Tyler over text back in 2022 but revealed how the feelings weren’t mutual.

Tyler recalled calling Carmichael a “stupid bitch” and then said: “I think I just like brushed it off, getting news like that and avoiding it is a way to avoid change.”

Carmichael responded: “One, it’s embarrassing, a little bit, and obviously the fear of it being so totally unrequited.”

Despite this moment, Carmichael asked Tyler to be his date to the Emmy awards in 2022.

However, a few days before the awards, Tyler declined.

At the end of the episode, the pair discuss their friendship. Tyler said news of his friends feelings was “a lot of download” and that he saw Carmichael more as a family member.

“That’s like a brother. That man’s like family,” he continued. He admitted he “still didn’t know how to respond.”

The rapper recently addressed the rejection during his headlining set at Coachella last week.

The rapper made an explosive entrance during his headline set at Coachella at the weekend, bringing out some huge names as surprise guests and breaking out a number of fan-favourite tracks.

Taking place as the closing performance of Coachella day two, eagle-eyed fans also noticed that there was a subtle pin badge that the musician was wearing throughout the set, showing his support for Palestine.

As highlighted by Clash, the distinctive pin simply showed the Palestinian flag, and was worn alongside a pin for Congo too – shedding light on the humanitarian disasters in both countries.

During his set, Tyler took to the stage after an RV parked on the stage burst into flames and launched him into the air. During the set, Childish Gambino joined him to perform ‘Running Out Of Time’ from Tyler’s 2019 album ‘Igor’, while A$AP Rocky later came out for the live debut of ‘Potato Salad’ followed by ‘Who Dat Boy’.

Later on in his headline slot, Tyler brought out Charlie Wilson to play piano on ‘EARFQUAKE’ and ‘911’. He also brought out Kali Uchis to perform ‘See You Again’.

The slot was given a four-star review from NME, with Rhian Daly writing: “It’s a reflection of the rapper’s cult icon status and a rebuttal to those in his life who didn’t believe in him […] After tonight, it feels unlikely that anyone will doubt him again.”
