The Cribs Lee Ranaldo

The Cribs have shared a special lockdown performance that sees them remotely reuniting with past collaborator and former Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo to perform ‘Be Safe’ — watch the performance below.

The Wakefield trio say that the performance is their first as a band for nearly two years, and was announced earlier this morning (June 8) with a short video clip which carried the words “from around the globe!”.

The Cribs’ remote reunion with Ranaldo to perform their 2007 track ‘Be Safe’ from ‘Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever’ has now been shared online, and you can see it in full below.

In a statement that was shared by The Cribs to accompany this version of ‘Be Safe’, the band said: “Got the old band back together (despite being separated by thousands of miles!) for a fashionably late isolation video, our first ‘live’ performance in almost 2 years!

“Feel like the title of the song is quite pertinent at the minute, and hope you’re all looking out for each other. Love, The Cribs.”

The Cribs’ last album, ’24-7 Rock Star Shit’, was released back in 2017.

The band recently looked back on the making of their 2004 album ‘The New Fellas’ as part of Tim Burgess’ ongoing series of online album listening parties.

Back in April, Ranaldo shared three previously rare solo releases to Bandcamp. This included two full-length projects: ‘DEMONS: MUSIC FOR STAGE AND SCREEN’, a limited Switzerland-released CD from 2004, and ‘Scriptures Of The Golden Eternity’, a collection of live solo recordings from 1988 and 1989 that was released on vinyl in 1993.
