Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t out until next year, but the developers keep sharing upcoming bits of the game to get fans excited, and it’s working.

The Monster Hunter Twitter account shared a video of the hammer, one of the weapons in the upcoming monster fighting game. Monster Hunter is known for its wide-variety of weapons that each come with a different moveset and playstyle.

For a weapon as weighty as a hammer, you might expect all the moves to be slow and lumbering, but there’s a surprising amount of agility on display. As well as spinning around to wind up devastatingly strong blows, the character can dart behind monsters as they leap into the air for a forward attack.

“Close the gap and dodge attacks by using the slinger to never give monsters room to breathe,” reads the tweet. “Bonk with precision and stay centered on the monster’s head with Focus Mode and stagger it with a Focus Strike!”

Fans of the series are excited about this weapon. YouTuber Arekkz Gaming posted, “Quick rundown of what’s got us hyped: Streamlined for faster KOs & mobility, Hyper armor in the Big Bang combo? Yes, please! Plague doctor armor & glowing brain hammer, Golf swing combo, new Focus Strike & a parry, Quick dash for insane evasion & gap closing, Spinning Meteor rework with brutal KO power.”

“The focus mode will probably make hitting the head easier to get that KO. So satisfying,” wrote KeiranPawlak. It’s important to target specific body parts in the Monster Hunter series to deal more damage or collect specific parts from monsters that can be used to upgrade weapons and armour.

In other news, the latest Fortnite trailer shows the next season will contain more Marvel characters, from Dr Doom to War Machine.
