Fans of The Simpsons are posting online about how the show appeared to predict the results of last night’s US presidential election (November 5)
An episode of the classic animated sitcom titled Bart To The Future depicted Lisa Simpson running for President and winning.
It includes a shot of a screen showing which states Lisa had won versus her opponent, and X/Twitter users are pointing out the similarities to the real-life map from the 2024 US election.
The episode in question first aired in March 2000 as part of the 11th season of The Simpsons.

This isn’t the first time that this specific The Simpsons episode has seemed to accurately represent political events of the future. The President that Lisa was taking over from was none other than Donald Trump – who would go on to be elected for the first time in 2016.
Once Lisa was elected, she declared: “We’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump”.
Bart To The Future also pictured Lisa wearing a purple suit, pearl necklace and earrings, which fans realised was almost identical to what the current Vice President and 2024 Democrat candidate Kamala Harris was wearing during her inauguration with President Joe Biden in 2021.
This speculation comes as the US election results rolled in overnight, with Trump making a victory speech earlier this morning (November 6). Many, including stars from the entertainment world, shared their reactions online as it appeared Trump was on the cusp of winning.
For years, fans have been noticing The Simpsons’ predictions. In 1993, an episode titled Marge In Chains saw Springfield hit with an outbreak of the ‘Osaka Flu’, worsened by the presence of killer bees. This mirrors the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the presence of deadly giant hornets during that period.
In the 2006 episode Homer’s Paternity Coot, Home searches for jewels underwater in a submarine, before getting stuck in a barrier reef and losing oxygen. The storyline resembled the case of OceanGate’s Titanic submersible in 2023, which lost communication and imploded upon descent.
In October, The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman responded to the question of how the show appears to be so good at forecasting the future. He said: “Well, the sourpuss answer I always give that no one likes is that if you study history and math, it would be literally impossible for us not to predict things.”
