It’s already been over nine years since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt came out, and The Witchermay be closer than we thought.

Speaking during an earnings call for CD Projekt, the company behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said: “The Polaris team is maintaining the right scale to enter the production stage very soon”, as transcribed by IGN.

Polaris is the codename for The Witcher 4, and it has 410 out of the company’s 639 employees working on it. The fact that the game hasn’t entered full production yet does mean it’s unlikely we’ll see it in 2024 or 2025, but we’ll learn more as development progresses.

As of November, 2023, the game had over 300 developers working on it. With large studios like CD Projekt, it’s normal to have smaller teams of developers begin preproduction work while the rest of the team is still working on something else. With CD Projekt, it is likely the rest of the staff were finishing up Phantom Liberty. Some are even working on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel already.

At the moment, we know very little about The Witcher 4, but there is a theory that the game will focus on Ciri, Geralt’s adopted daughter. A symbol shown in a teaser for the game is a lynx, an animal that’s like a combination of a cat, Ciri’s Witcher school, and a wolf, Geralt’s Witcher school.

We do know for sure that Gerlat himself will make a return, just not as the main character. His voice actor, Doug Cockle, confirmed that he would be returnign to voice the characterm but, “what we know is that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t focus on Geralt.”

In other news, some players who paid for early access to Star Wars Outlaws have been asked to delete their save files and start over again from scratch.
