These massive movies are new to streaming this week

As we reach the half-way point in August, some of this summer’s biggest movies are now available to watch from the comfort of your own home – read on for a list of the biggest new films to hit streaming this week.

With the likes of Deadpool & Wolverine, Despicable Me 4, Twisters and Inside Out 2 still packing out the multiplexes, here are some of the biggest options that are now on offer in your living rooms.

These films are now available on streaming

The biggest new arrival is George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which is available now to rent via Apple TV here or to buy via Apple, Sky, Microsoft or Amazon.

The spin-off prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, it saw Anya Taylor-Joy assume the role of the fearless titular role of Furiosa, who is abducted by Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus and has to fight for her independence.

In a five-star review, NME described it as “brilliant and unmissable”, adding: “The result is another extraordinary blockbuster juggernaut that in some sequences somehow excels even its predecessor, arresting viewers with its booming, utterly immersive world of grease, dust, motorbikes and carnage.”

This week’s other standout addition to streaming platforms is Challengers, the spicy sports drama directed by Luca Guadagnino (Bones And All, Call Me By Your Name).

It follows professional tennis champion Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) who is plotting a career comeback with the help of his wife Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a former tennis rising star who was forced to retire due to an injury.

At a tournament, however, Art is matched against Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor), who is his former best friend and his wife’s ex lover.

NME awarded the film four stars, writing: “The performances are exceptional, with off-the-scale chemistry between all three leads. Zendaya, in particular, is a force of nature, and you feel her angry frustration at her own career path (which was cut short by injury) in every scene. O’Connor and Faist are equally good, and if the film has a flaw, it’s only that it doesn’t explicitly dig deeper into their feelings for each other, leaving it as an underlying suggestion instead.”

Challengers is available to rent or buy now from Apple, Amazon, Sky or Microsoft.

• Back To Black, the Amy Winehouse biopic directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring Industry’s Marisa Abela as the ill-fated singer. Available to buy or rent here.

• Dune: Part Two, the epic sci-fi sequel to 2021’s Dune from director Denis Villeneuve that brought in over $700m at the global box office. Buy or rent here.

• Monkey Man, the action thriller written and directed by and starring Dev Patel that NME named one of the best films of the year so far. Buy or rent here.

• The Fall Guy, the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt action comedy based on the 1980s TV show of the same name. Buy or rent here.

• Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the latest in the supernatural franchise, starring Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon alongside the ‘80s favourites. Buy or rent here.

• Wicked Little Letters, the Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley comedy about the anonymous authors of expletive-filled letters in 1920s Littlehampton. It is streaming on Netflix now.
