The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has been on PlayStation and PC since late 2023, but now the Dwarvern survival game is finally coming to Xbox.

Return to Moria is a survival-crafting game set in the Fourth Age, after the defeat of Sauron and the destruction of The One Ring. It features the Dwarves returning to Moria, a settlement within the Misty Mountains they’d previously abandoned after digging too deep and uncovering the demonic Balrog. But, with it slain at the hands of Gandalf, the mountain and all its riches are just there for the taking.

In the game, you’ll have to manage your Dwarf’s hunger, sleep, body temperature, and willpower as you descend deeper into the depths of the procedurally generated mines. You fight all manner of beasties down in the darkness, and you get to build up your ideal Dwarvern settlement with all the materials you gather.

The game is now heading to Steam and Xbox August 27. It also features voice acting from none other than Gimli himself, John Rhys-Davies. “Actors often create characters out of love and it’s very hard, sometimes, to let them go,” Rhys’Davies says. “Certainly, Gimli is, for me, a character that I really adore, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to reprise him in a different context.”

He tasks players with the retrival of the realms lost treasures, and if there’s one thing we know Dwarves love, it’s treasure. You can go on this journey alone, offline, enjoying everything at your leisure. But, if you’d rather play with friends, you can do so too, via online co-op.

In other news, Red Dead Redemption 2 actor Roger Clarke revealed the hardest thing about doing motion capture for Arthur Morgan, and it’s not what you’d expect.
