Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s home was burgled a few weeks ago, police have said.

The incident is the latest in a spate of home burglaries in South California, which was confirmed to ABC News. Thieves managed to get into their guest house, but not the main building.

Nobody was home at the time, since the couple had gone out of town, and officials have confirmed that they aren’t believed to have been specifically targeted in the incident. As of yesterday (August 5), police have not yet made any arrests.

The suspects are believed to have been part of the ongoing groups that have been burgling high end neighbourhoods for the last few years. The thieves reportedly track when celebrities are away via social media, even checking stars’ promotional schedules to see when an opportunity might arise.

In other news, the couple’s son Chet recently admitted that he felt “completely fucking worthless” growing up with famous parents.

“I’ll tell you something about my childhood. People think that being Tom Hanks’ son, like, I would grow up feeling like I was the shit,” he said (via UsWeekly). “I actually grew up feeling completely fucking worthless.”

The actor and musician didn’t blame his experience on his famous parents, though. Instead, he said it was his peers and strangers who made him feel negatively about himself.

“People treated me like, ‘You must think you’re better than me’ when I didn’t. I just wanted to be friends with everybody and be treated like everybody else,” he told his MTV Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets co-stars, including Kim Zolciak Biermann, Josie Canseco and O.T. Genasis. “But what am I supposed to do? Walk through the doors and be all meek and timid? That was a mind fuck for me to deal with.”
