Actors Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn has been criticised after he was pictured with Mel Gibson at his Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremony.

The pair were pictured together yesterday (August 12) ahead of the release of Vaughn’s new Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey, which is set to premiere on the streaming service tomorrow (August 14)

They previously appeared together in the 2018 thriller Dragged Across Concrete.

While some hailed footage and pics of the pair together, others expressed their dismay on social media with one writing: “And everyone was saying last week how he was spot on about comedies lol fuck this guy and his opinions on comedy. Of course he brings Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn is disgusting.”

Another added: “This has nothing to do with politics Vince Vaughn does not deserve a Hollywood star of Fame & he hangs out with Mel Gibson. Apple TV has given him a TV show he does not deserve, he is a TRAITOR to our country along with a lot of his friends.”

Vaughn and Gibson are yet to comment on the criticism. NME has contacted their publicists for comment.

In 2006, Gibson was arrested under suspicion of drunk driving, during which he was accused of making a series of antisemitic insults.

He was also allegedly taped in a racist outburst while arguing with his former girlfriend in 2010.

More recently, the actor and Mark Wahlberg were criticised by Jack White for meeting Donald Trump at an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event. The musician accused them of normalising a “racist con man”.

Elsewhere, Vaughn offered his thoughts on why Hollywood no longer makes R-rated comedies like Wedding Crashers, Old School and Swingers, earlier this month.

During a recent appearance on the Hot Ones podcast, in which celebrities are interviewed while eating hot wings that get increasingly spicier, the actor suggested that studio executives are now more inclined to play things safe and utilise existing intellectual property.
