âSo a few months ago I got a call about a summer run of shows. Iâve been content as anything with my shows in Londonâs Hyde Park and my residency in Vegas, so I hadnât had any other plans. However, I was too curious to not follow up and indulge in this idea â a one-off, bespoke pop-up stadium designed around whatever show I want to put on?,â Adele said on Instagram when the residency was first announced.
The shows follow on from the conclusion of Adeleâs âWeekends With Adeleâ Las Vegas residency earlier this year, and are being staged at a âpop-upâ venue designed by Eurovision Song Contest and Americaâs Got Talent set designer Florian Wieder. It was put together by a 700-strong team.
The stage is huge, featuring a 93-metre catwalk and 200-metre semi-circle stage meaning Adele is able to get close to fans in the audience. Behind her is a 220 x 30 metre screen â something that cost a reported ÂŁ34million.
The venue, which spans 400,000 square metres across the Munich fairgrounds outside of the city, will be âopen airâ for audiences. Also on the site of the venue is âAdele Worldâ â a festival site area where fans can get a beer in a pub modelled on the Good Ship in Kilburn, London, where Adele performed some of her earliest gigs. There is also an âI Drink Wineâ bar named after a track from her most recent album, â30â.
Notably absent from her setlist was any new material, and she recently said she has no intention of recording another album anytime soon.
âI donât have any plans for new music, at all,â she said. âI want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.â
