Queen‘s Brian May recently joined The Offspring live for a performance of ‘Gone Away’ and a cover of ‘Stone Cold Crazy’.
The legendary guitarist teamed up with the punk icons during their set at the Starmus VII festival in Bratislava, Slovakia last week (May 13). The festival was billed as the “world’s largest science, music and other arts festival” and is the brainchild of astrophysicist Garik Israelian and the Queen guitarist himself (who also happens to be an astrophysicist).
This year’s festival features performances by The Offspring as well as former Spandau Ballet lead singer Tony Hadley and more.
May joined Dexter Holland and co. for a performance of their 1997 track ‘Gone Away’ and followed that with a cover of Queen’s classic ‘Stone Cold Crazy’. The band also performed an array of career spanning hits such as ‘Come Out And Play’, ‘Pretty Fly For A White Guy’ and ‘Self-Esteem’.
Elsewhere, May also joined French composer and performer Jean-Michel Jarre at Bridge from the Future, the opening concert for the Starmus Festival.
Jarre’s performance featured 19 musical works that spanned his career. He also performed a new arrangement of Antonín Dvořák’s ‘New World Symphony’.
May came on stage as a special guest and performed ‘Deuxième Rendez-Vous’ – the first live performance of the piece since December 2013 – ‘New World Symphony’, ‘Last Horizon’ and a cover of Queen’s ‘Brighton Rock’. The former Queen guitarist came back on stage for the encore ‘The Time Machine’ to close out the night.
In other news, earlier this year, there was speculation that a hologram show of the late and great Freddie Mercury could be on the way.
Hints that a new hologram show featuring the late Queen frontman emerged after Mercury Songs Limited – the organisation which has ownership over the singer’s solo works – reportedly filed to trademark his moniker for virtual reality and 3D.
