Fontaines D.C. have debuted a brand new track called ‘Death Kink’ at a recent live show. Check out footage of the moment below.

The moment took place as the Irish band took to the stage at the 2024 edition of Haldern Pop Festival in Germany last Friday (August 9), and performed a huge set.
During the gig, Grian Chatten and co. broke out a run of familiar favourites, as well as new tracks taken from their highly anticipated fourth album ‘Romance’ – which is set to arrive on August 23 via XL Recordings (pre-order/pre-save here).
As well as closing the show with two previously-shared singles from the upcoming James Ford-produced record: ‘Starburster’ and ‘Favourite’, the band also surprised fans by debuting an unreleased track called ‘Death Kink’.
Coming in six songs into 16 song setlist, the rendition followed on from opening tracks ‘Romance’, ‘Jackie Down The Line’, ‘Televised Mind’, ‘Roman Holiday’ and ‘Big Shot’, and saw the band start with an ominous, guitar-driven intro, which builds momentum until it finds its groove.
“When you came into my life, I was lost/ And you took that shine to me, at what cost?/ You recognised the smell, human pain/ Said I’d learn to love the chain,” Chatten sings, building up to the Nirvana-tinged chorus.
“It was shit, shit, shit, battered/ I caved in/ My promise was clattered/ Amazing stars from the dreaming/ I made a promise and I killed it.” Check out the song below.
While the song hasn’t been officially shared yet, it has been confirmed that it will appear on ‘Romance’ as the penultimate song on the 11-song tracklist.
The live debut of ‘Death Kink’ also came just days after the band shared a new single called ‘Here’s The Thing’, and dropped an accompanying horror-inspired music video.
According to the members, ‘Here’s The Thing’ was written just days before the frontman entered the studio to record their upcoming LP, and the finished result sees it underpinned by mechanically-tinged, mutant guitar sounds, paired with expressive electronic aspects.
‘Romance’ drops later this month, and after its release, Fontaines D.C. will perform on the main stage at Reading & Leeds 2024. This will be followed by their 2024 UK and Ireland headline tour, which is set to take place in November and December. That stint includes two nights at Alexandra Palace in the capital.
That isn’t it for their live shows either, as last week the group also unveiled news of a huge outdoor show at London’s Finsbury Park, due to take place on Saturday July 5, 2025. It will mark the Irish band’s biggest headline performance to date, with support coming from Amyl And The Sniffers and Kneecap.

Back in June, Fontaines D.C. headlined The Park Stage at Glastonbury 2024 and Chatten also joined Kneecap on stage to perform ‘Better Way To Live’ during the Belfast trio’s slot on the Peace Stage.
Speaking to NME at this year’s festival, bassist Conor Deegan III explained what Fontaines D.C.’s latest singles tell us about the forthcoming ‘Romance’.
“They tell us who we want to be, but also where we came from as well,” he said. “‘Starburster’ is us trying to push things out there and ‘Favourite’ is us trying to bring who we were with us.”
Guitarist Carlos O’Connell added: “For the first time, it’s an album that looks at our present with a forward view, you know? I think in the past we’ve either tried to live in the past or missed the past. Now we’re trying to understand the world we live in right now and not try to think of something that’s gone, but think of what’s to come.”
