Jack White

Jack White debuted a number of songs from his new album ‘No Name’ at an intimate show in Nashville on Saturday – check out footage below.

The small-scale show went down at the American Legion Post 82 bar over the weekend (July 27), which White had only announced a few days earlier, explaining that it would help procure “a new sound system” for the venue.

The set – only his second live performance of 2024, after a Detroit show in June – wound up including no fewer than six songs from ‘No Name’, the album he surprise released 10 days ago.

He opened with four of the new songs – ‘Old Scratch Blues’, ‘Archbishop Harold Holmes’, ‘That’s How I’m Feeling’ and ‘What’s The Rumpus?’ – before going on to play a number of more familiar tracks, including The White Stripes’ ‘Fell In Live With A Girl’ and ‘Ball And Biscuit’. ‘It’s Rough On Rats (If You’re Asking)’ and ‘Morning At Midnight’ also received their live debuts.

The show also shed a little further light on ‘No Name’, which was released unannounced by being slipped into the bags of customers at branches of White’s Third Man Records stores in London, Nashville and Detroit.

Further vinyl copies were on sale at the gig, now complete with abstract blue cover art and sleeve information that confirms the album was recorded at Third Man Studios in Nashville in 2023 and 2024.

As soon as select fans had their hands on the album, it started to appear online, with Third Man Records themselves urging fans to “rip it”. It was also broadcast in full by Detroit radio station WDET 101.9FM, which is situated just across the street from the store.

It follows on from his pair of solo releases in 2022, ‘Fear Of The Dawn’ and ‘Entering Heaven Alive’.

White, meanwhile, will replace Queens Of The Stone Age at the upcoming Øya Festival 2024, after the band were forced to cancel a further run of European dates as Josh Homme remains under “medical care” in the US.

He also joined Conan O’Brien at Newport Folk Festival yesterday (July 28) for a cover of The White Stripes’ ‘We Are Going To Be Friends’.
