Jimmy Fallon performed the ’80s hit ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ with Heart to mark yesterday’s solar eclipse.

Yesterday (April 8), most of North America and Mexico witnessed the spectacle for the first time since 2017. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon lines up perfectly between the Earth and the sun, blocking out the sunlight. North America won’t see the celestial event again for 21 years.

The popular late-night show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon featured a one-off performance in New York’s iconic Times Square to celebrate the natural phenomenon. Heart was this week’s musical guest and joined the comedian on stage to sing the Bonnie Tyler classic.

Fallon wore a curly mullet wig and ’80s-style visor sunglasses while rocking out with the ‘Barracuda’ hitmakers. The moment was shot on the rooftop at 30 Rockefeller Plaza during the rare cosmic occurrence. Watch the performance below.

The comedian teased the segment on X/Twitter, writing: “Iconic rock duo Heart is our musical guest tonight – also there was a solar eclipse. So we did what we had to do and sang ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ with @OfficialHeart from the rooftop of @NBC during the TOTAL eclipse.”

In addition to Heart, Jim Parsons and Kaia Gerber also made guest appearances on Monday’s show.

Tyler also recently expressed that she loves how her Number One hit has become the unofficial solar eclipse anthem. “I still get excited when I hear the song on the radio,” Tyler revealed to Good Morning America. “Every time the eclipse comes, everyone all over the world, they play ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and I never get tired of singing it.”

Vampire Weekend also performed a special gig to commemorate the eclipse at the Moody Amphitheater in Austin, Texas. Those in attendance were treated to a handful of surprises, including the band live-debuting new songs and bringing out special guests from Phoenix and Chromeo.
