Kelly Clarkson and Weezer's Rivers Cuomo

Kelly Clarkson joined Rivers Cuomo and Patrick Wilson on a version of Weezer’s ‘Say It Ain’t So’ on her show this week – watch the footage below.

The 2002 American Idol winner has been hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show on US syndicated television since 2019, and for the last few years the show has included ‘Kellyoke’, where she performs versions of her favourite songs.

On Wednesday’s (May 15) show, she was joined by members of the beloved ‘90s band, as well as actor Brooke Shields, and she took her chance to sing one of their signature songs alongside them. “I’ve literally never been cool in my life until now!” Clarkson exclaimed at the end of the song.

Weezer posted the following day that Clarkson “gave us a run for our money on Kellyoke”. Watch the performance below:

Previously, she has given her take on U2’s ‘Mysterious Ways’, Miley Cyrus’ ‘Used To Be Young’, Katy Perry’s ‘Wide Awake, Bloc Party’s ‘Like Eating Glass’ and the Frasier theme song alongside Kelsey Grammer.

Weezer are preparing for their upcoming ‘Voyage To The Blue Planet’ North American tour, which will take place in September and October, and celebrates the 30th anniversary of their self-titled 1994 debut album, commonly known as ‘The Blue Album’.

The band will play the record in full at the shows and have also promised rarities and “very special guests”. They will be supported by The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. See the full list of dates here and find any remaining tickets here.

Weezer will also join The Smashing Pumpkins on tour next month – check out dates below and get your tickets here.

NME spoke to Rivers Cuomo last year about building his new Discord community for his fans, saying that while his fans may predate the platform, they seem to have shared the same musical values over time: “Our musical tastes are very consistent even from the ’90s, really,” Cuomo said.

“We all still like super emotional songs with great melodies that are catchy and yet somewhat progressive and challenging and complex musically. We like big guitars and weird lyrics. It’s still true.”
