The Portland-based Foo Fighters/Nirvana tribute act were playing at Georgie’s Garage in Vancouver, Washington on Thursday (July 18), when Nirvana’s founding bassist joined them for three classics, also including ‘Blew’ from their 1989 debut album ‘Bleach’.

It is not the first time in recent weeks that the Nirvana bassist has played some of his former band’s songs on stage: last month, his current group The Bona Fide Band played ‘Love Buzz’ in Kurt Cobain’s hometown of Aberdeen, Washington.

The song was first written and recorded by Dutch band Shocking Blue in 1969 and was later covered by Nirvana and released as their debut single on Sub Pop Records in 1988.

Last year, Novoselic told NME about the chances of a reunion from the surviving Nirvana members in the future.

“I’d like to,” he said. “There was a time after Kurt died when I said to myself, ‘I’m never going to play these songs again’. That was part of the grief I went through. We don’t want to overdo it, we try to make it special and be grateful.

“When the opportunity comes, we do it if it feels right. In the meantime, we just remember Kurt and do our thing.”

Asked if they would ever record new music, he replied: “Yeah, we actually have some material. Dave already spilled the beans on that. I’m going to bug Dave about that! ‘Hey, what about those jams we did? What do you want to do with those?’ Thank you for reminding me!”

Nirvana, meanwhile, recently settled a copyright dispute over the band’s smiley face logo. In 2018, the band sued Marc Jacobs International after the company debuted a “Redux Grunge” collection including the image.
