Last week Slipknot played a huge show at Madison Square Garden as part of their ongoing ‘Here Comes The Pain’ tour – and broke out songs that haven’t been performed live in nearly 25 years.
Now, thanks to a fan, the entire set can be found online. Check it out below.
Taking place at the iconic New York City venue last Monday (August 12), the gig marked the fifth show of the metal icon’s ongoing 25th-anniversary tour and, as expected, saw the members break out a setlist filled with rarities and deep cuts.
Comprising of 14 songs, the entire night was dedicated to material from their seminal debut album ‘Slipknot’, which first put them on the map upon its release in 1999. Only playing songs from that LP, the set also contained two tracks that hadn’t been played live in nearly a quarter of a century.
Now, thanks to a fan who attended the show, the full performance is available online and can be watched in full.
“Nothing you will hear tonight was written after 1999,” frontman Corey Taylor can be heard telling the crowd in the footage uploaded by YouTube user StageVibez, before the band open with ‘742617000027’, ‘(sic)’, ‘Eyeless’ and ‘Wait And Bleed’.
From there, other noteworthy mentions come in the form of ‘No Life’ and ‘Scissors’ – two tracks which Blabbermouth highlights have not been played in a live setting since 2000.
Similarly, the Madison Square Garden show also included other rarities like ‘Only One’, ‘Me Inside’ and ‘Get This’, which haven’t been added to the setlists since 2012, 2015 and 2019 respectively. Check out the footage above.
The night marked the fifth performance on the tour since the nine-piece kicked off the stunt with an opening night at the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville on August 6. For all of the anniversary shows, the band have revived their classic look, bringing back the red jumpsuits and elements of their early masks.
Speaking to NME about their plans for their shows and the future, Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan said late last year: “In 25 years of writing seven albums, we’ve allowed ourselves to do anything and everything we want. We do what we want, as much as we want, when we want, how we want. I’m ready to move on from what has been, and move onto a world that I know needs to be. For instance, normally we’d have about two years on and one-and-a-half years off — we’re not doing that anymore.
He continued: “We’re going back to basics. I’m ready to kick everybody in the face again! I’m ready to do a 100-person venue again! I’m ready to do a 500-person venue. We want to play in front of 500 people, but there are a lot of factors that will mean it can’t happen. We’re at the point where we’ve got to ensure safety.
“Nobody knows truly what’s happening. If I were a fan, I would [ask] ‘Why wouldn’t the band play the album in its entirety?’ and ‘Why wouldn’t the band play some special events that seem intimate and fun?’ I’d put money on it – I want to come full circle and get back to when the dream was only a dream. I can’t promise you anything until it’s happening though.
“As far as the new album, that’s happening, but that’s another plan. These live dates are coming first and we’re here to have a good time. This band has never been happier, and that takes a lot because we’ve been through a lot — drugs, women, money, fame, ego, isolation. But we are on track.”
