Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Activision has released the first look at the chaotic action players can expect to find in Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer.

The brand new trailer showcases the chaotic action of competitive multiplayer across a range of various locales. From scorching deserts, to the neon lights of Miami, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is aiming to offer a variety of biomes for players to compete in.

Vehicular combat is also emphasised, with a range of helicopters, tanks and gunboats being used to traverse across a range of environments. The trailer also ended with a brief tease for the returning Zombies mode.

As revealed in the trailer, an open beta will begin on October 8 exclusively for PS4 players who have digitally pre-ordered the game. On October 10, the beta opens for all PS4 players for the weekend and will return October 15-19 on all other platforms.

A PlayStation Blog has revealed more details about the Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer and what’s changed in the latest instalment. Three new modes were announced and will be arriving which aim to shake up the formula in unique new ways:

  • VIP Escort – This mode pits two teams of six against each other as each team must escort their VIP to the extraction point. Non-VIP players who are killed will be out until the next round, but are in a downed state before death where they can be revived and defend themselves with a pistol.
  • Combined Arms – Based around vehicular combat, two teams of 12 will allow for larger scale matches with a mixture of gunplay and vehicle based traversal. Multiple pre-existing game modes such as Domination will be included within the mode.
  • Fireteam – Little is mentioned about the mode, outside of the fact that four teams of ten will battle “where the action is centred around not just the operators in the field, but also the environment they battle in”.

An array of additional gameplay features have been tweaked or changed entirely. Scorestreaks return, however, will carry across through death to ensure everyone has a chance to use their rewards. Field Upgrades are also available and are items to help you in battle, earned solely on time in-game with a cooldown that lasts after death.

Other changes include new weapon sounds using 3D sounds and movement tweaks, such as players gaining a boost of speed once they begin sprinting.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will arrive on November 13 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. The PS5 version will arrive on the console’s launch.
