Netflix has unveiled new details about the plot, premiere date, cast, trailer and more of its upcoming K-drama, The Atypical Family, starring Jang Ki-yong. Learn everything you need to know about the series below.
What is the plot of The Atypical Family?
The Atypical Family centres around Bok Gwi-joo and his family, who are all born with various supernatural powers. Gwi-joo has the ability to travel back in time, while the family’s matriarch, Bok Man-heum, has the power to foresee the future. Gwi-joo’s sister, Dong-hee, has the ability to fly, and Bok Yi-na, the family’s youngest, does not seem to have inherited any powers as of yet.
However, each of the family’s members begin to lose their abilities due to modern-day complications, with problems ranging from insomnia to smartphone addictions. However, when Do Da-hae gets roped into the Bok family’s affairs, she starts to ignite some change that leads the family to believing that she is the key to gaining their powers back.
Who is in the cast ofThe Atypical Family?
My Roommate is a Gumiho’s Jang Ki-yong will star as Bok Gwi-joo, marking his first television project since he completed his mandatory military service in February last year. Chun Won-hee, who will also appear in the upcoming Netflix original The 8 Show, stars opposite him as Do Da-hae.
Meanwhile, Twinkling Watermelon‘s Ko Du-shim will play Bok Man-heum, Claudia Kim of Fantastic Beasts fame will play Dong-hee and child actress Park So-yi stars as Yi-na. Others cast members include The Kidnapping Day‘s Oh Man-seok, Ryu Abel of A Good Day To Be A Dog and more.

The Atypical Family will premiere May 4 on South Korean cable network JTBC, with new episodes airing every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30pm KST. The series will be available n Netflix internationally, with new episodes being released concurrently with JTBC’s broadcast schedule.
