The buzzy comedy drama English Teacher is streaming now on Disney+ in the UK, but when can fans expect to see a second season? Read on for all the details.
The show is the brain child of Brian Jordan Alvarez, who created it and stars as the lead character Evan Marquez, an English teacher at Morrison-Hensley High School in Austin, Texas who finds himself juggling his professional, political and personal lives.
Alvarez is known for his regular appearances in Will & Grace and Jane The Virgin, and has also had supporting roles in films such as M3GAN and 80 For Brady.
Also starring as teachers in the show are Stephanie Koenig (Lessons In Chemistry, The Flight Attendant) and Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars, Person Of Interest).
The show consists of eight episodes of under 25 minutes, and it debuted on the US network FX on September 2, with a later arrival on Disney+ for viewers in the UK.
The show also makes use of a number of memorable songs, including a slew of ‘80s pop classics from the likes of The Cars, New Order, Laura Brannigan and The Bangles. See the full list here.
When is English Teacher season two coming out?
The show recently wrapped up its first run of episodes, earning very strong critical reviews and establishing an early cult following.
Given the show’s success, it seems likely that its US network FX will eventually renew it for a second season, but as of now, the channel has yet to confirm that it will happen.
Alvarez has made it clear that he would like to continue making the show, telling Decider in a recent interview: “I am completely ready to make as much of this show as is humanly possible. I’m very excited for the future.”
Koenig has also indicated that she expects the show to return, revealing that she believes Alvarez was “pushing” for a second season before the first even began to be aired last month.
