Billie Eilish has explained why she isn’t sharing any singles from her new album before its release.

The pop star’s third studio record ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ is due to arrive on May 17. When announcing the 10-track project, Eilish said she wanted fans to experience it “all at once”.
However, the singer has since previewed three songs – ‘L’Amour De Ma Vie’, ‘Chihiro’ and ‘Lunch’ – during a surprise DJ set at Coachella 2024.
In a new cover interview with Rolling Stone, Eilish talked about why she had changed her approach to dropping music for this album rollout.
“I don’t like singles from albums,” she told the publication. “Every single time an artist I love puts out a single without the context of the album, I’m just already prone to hating on it. I really don’t like when things are out of context.”
She continued: “This album is like a family: I don’t want one little kid to be in the middle of the room alone.”
The interviewer then agreed with Eilish’s decision after hitting play on ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’. Later, the star’s brother and collaborator Finneas said that the opening song on the LP was “a total false promise”.
“If you’re remembering ‘What Was I Made For?’ and then you hear [it], you go, ‘Oh, OK. I understand this world’,” he added.
“Then the drums come in [on ‘Lunch’], and it really is the kill-the-main-character-type beat. It’s like Drew Barrymore being in the first five minutes of Scream and then they kill her. You’re like, ‘They can’t kill Drew. Oh, my God, they killed Drew!'”
Elsewhere in the interview, Eilish opened up about her body dysmorphia, sharing that “self-pleasure” had helped her feel “empowered and comfortable”.
Following her comments about the lack of sustainability in the vinyl world, Eilish has confirmed that the physical copies of ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ will be made using 100 per cent recyclable materials. See the album’s full tracklist here and visit here to pre-order.
