Helldivers 2: Multiple Helldivers can be seen

Helldivers 2 was recently the subject of an outpouring of anger after a decision to force Steam players to link the game with a PSN account. That choice has been reversed, and players seem to be forgiving Sony for it.

It was announced last week (May 3) that all Helldivers 2 players on PC would have to link a PlayStation Network account in order to continue playing the game. This was something that was written into the game’s Steam page before, but it wasn’t enforced due to “technical issues”.

PSN is not available in most countries, and it’s against its terms of service to make an account in a region you don’t live in, so this meant that many people who had paid for the game and its premium warbonds would lose access. The game has been pulled from Steam in over 150 countries.

Hundreds of thousands of players negatively reviewed Helldivers 2 on Steam to show their discontent with the enforcing of this decision, and after talks with developer Arrowhead, Sony announced it was walking back the policy.

It shared a statement reading “Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.”

It further added, “We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable.”

In response, players have begun changing their negative Steam reviews into positive ones, a show of good faith after the reversal of the controversial decision. Many of the recently posted reviews praise Sony for listening to its fans, and the reviews have gone from overwhelmingly negative to mixed, a strong improvement.

It’s unclear when, if at all, the game will return to Steam in the territories it was previously removed from.

In other news, Nintendo has announced that Switch 2 news will be shared “this fiscal year”.
