United States’ Vice President Kamala Harris has made her first public appearance since President Joe Biden announced on Sunday (July 21) that he’s dropping out of the 2024 presidential election and endorsing Harris to run in his place as the Democratic nominee.

On Monday (July 22), Harris appeared at her first campaign staff meeting in Wilmington, Delaware, where she walked out to a powerful anthem: Beyoncé‘s ‘Freedom’.

On the 2016 track from ‘Lemonade’, Beyoncé sings: “Freedom / Where are you? / ‘Cause I need freedom, too / I break chains all by myself / Won’t let my freedom rot in hell/ I’ma keep running / ‘Cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.

During her speech, Kamala Harris directly addressed her opponent in Donald J. Trump: “I took on perpetrators of all kinds. Predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say: I know Donald Trump’s type.”

While Beyoncé has yet to publicly comment on Harris running for President, her mother Tina Knowles has voiced her support for the current Vice President on social media: “New, youthful, sharp energy…Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go #kamala2024.”

Other musicians, actors and celebrities who have endorsed their support for Harris include Charli XCX, John Legend, Jamie Lee Curtis, Viola Davis, Barbra Streisand, Mark Hamill, Spike Lee, Lizzo and more.

President Biden’s dropping out of the presidential race comes after there had been several calls from those in the entertainment world for Biden to step down after his disastrous first presidential debate against Trump on June 27.

A host of stars came out in support of Harris and the decision for Biden’s withdrawal after he announced he was dropping out of the US presidential race including Ariana Grande, Finneas and Jon Favreau, who wrote: “The President did what he’s done for the last four years – he listened to the American people and put the country’s interests ahead of his own. The exact opposite of Donald Trump.”
