Comedian and actor Kathy Burke has mocked Rita Ora’s outfit for the 2024 Met Gala, implying that it looked similar to a household item.

Ora attended the annual fashion event last night (May 6) in New York, where the dresscode was ‘Garden Of Time’.

Her outfit was a near-naked look, consisting of a nude bodysuit and a drapery of beads, which the singer said “age back to the first and second century”.

Burke took to X today to make a pop at Ora’s talked-about look, writing: “Yep, gotta keep those flies from coming in your back door,” referring to beaded curtains that can be brought to prevent flies from entering your house.

Fans took to the comment section to continue the joke, with one writing: “Every caravan had one,” while another wrote “I’ve just got one of those from Amazon for our kitchen door”.

Ora posted a lengthy description of the look on her Instagram, and how it kept with the theme of this year’s Met Gala. She wrote about the meaning and influence behind the look: “This dress encapsulates in the most delicate and powerful manner a real tapestry of human crafts spanning a period of two millenia from Egypt to Rome.”

She continued:  “It is composed of one of a kind antique glass beads from all over the world, highlighting one of humankind’s most ancient crafted objects and paired together with antique handmade glass beads from Murano ranging between the 40’s all through to the 70’s.”

She continued to describe the look and how it was constructed, highlighting how “the verticality of the dress elongates the silhouette, and the slight tension around the waist exhale the curves of the body further.”

Before thanking her styling, hair and makeup team, she added: “It is all hanging from a beautiful handmade metal structure that adorns the neckline almost as a jewel and defines it in a very graphic way.”

In other Met Gala news, Zendaya surprised fans by reappearing on the carpet for a rare second look.
