Machine Gun Kelly has said that he refuses to say anything bad about Taylor Swift as he doesn’t “want any smoke” with her fanbase.
The rapper, singer and guitarist has gotten himself into the deep end of controversy with other artists throughout his career, and therefore been on the receiving end of beef from their fan bases. However, according to a new interview, he has no intention of upsetting Swifties.
He made the comments during a new edition of Hot Ones Versus – a truth-or-dare version of the popular show hosted by Sean Evans. In the episode, MGK went head-to-head with Trippie Redd, and the two posed tough questions to one another, where they had the choice to either answer truthfully or instead eat a spicy chicken wing.
In a question posed to MGK, Trippie Redd recalled how the artist previously “offered to pay $1million if Travis Kelce would come play for the Cleveland Browns”, and then prompted him to “burn that bridge by saying three mean things about Taylor Swift”.
“Ladies and gentlemen, you have got to be out of your motherfucking mind if you think I want any smoke with that fanbase,” MGK responded instantly, refusing to take the bait.
“Taylor is a saint and very nice to me. And Travis is my bro.”
Redd then tried to lure him into answering the question, joking: “Kiss her feet while you’re at it”, but the guitarist continued: “She’s very nice. She’s very, very nice.”
He also went on to explain his offer to Kelce in more detail. “To the narrative of people that were like, ‘That’s it?’… I said I would give him $1million spending money on top of whatever the NFL [gave him]. I’m not the fucking NFL, so obviously I don’t have to pay him, like, $30million or $40million, whatever.
“I said I’ll give you a bonus of $1million and we can — I’m just gonna eat a chicken wing.”
The proposition for Kelce first emerged in November last year, when MGK appeared as a guest on Kelce’s and his brother Jason’s podcast and offered the Chiefs tight-end a lump sum of money as well as a few other perks if he were to leave his current team and play for the Cleveland Browns instead.
Although Kelly shied away from causing any upset with the Swiftie fanbase, he has often made headlines for butting heads with other artists. For instance, last year he took aim at Jack Harlow on a freestyle that saw him rapping over a Jay-Z instrumental – questioning the latter’s claim that he’s the second-best white rapper after Marshall Mathers.
Before then, Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly had come to blows numerous times. In 2020, Kelly released a new track called ‘Bullets With Names’, on which he seemingly bragged about having “killed” Eminem.
Other shots include Kelly’s track ‘Rap Devil’, on which he referenced Eminem’s sobriety and age, and was recorded in a locker room immediately after hearing a diss against Kelly on Eminem’s ‘Kamikaze’ album.
Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor also engaged in drama with “weird substitute teacher” Machine Gun Kelly in recent years, which began with MGK hitting out at the metal legends at Chicago’s Riot Fest, saying onstage: “You wanna know what I’m really happy that I’m not doing? Being 50 years old wearing a fucking weird mask on a fucking stage, talking shit.”
Both Machine Gun Kelly – who is now going by MGK – and Trippie Redd appear on the show together after they joined forces on the latter’s collaborative EP ‘genre: sadboy’.
In other MGK news, the rapper recently responded to backlash over his new signature guitar, which is shaped like a razor blade, and opened up about the “painful” blackout tattoo he got earlier this year.
As for Swift, the pop icon recently shared her new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, and has made countless headlines for its guest stars, intriguing lyrics (speculated to be about The 1975’s Matty Healy), and nods to London locations.
Following the LP’s release, Swift will resume her career-spanning ‘Eras Tour’ in Europe next month before heading to the UK and Ireland in June. Swift is due to play eight shows at Wembley Stadium in London this summer as part of the run, with support coming from Paramore.
