Scott Weiland’s son Noah finishes and shares dad’s unreleased demo after blackmail attempt

The Stone Temple Pilots frontman had recorded the song as a demo before his death

Noah Weiland has reworked unreleased vocals from his father, Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott, on the new song ‘Time Will Tell’, after an apparent blackmail attempt.

Scott Weiland, who was also the lead singer of Velvet Revolver, passed away back in 2015 due to an accidental overdose.

His son Noah is now embarking on a solo music career, and his latest single is ‘Time Will Tell’. The track features previously unheard vocals from Scott, which Noah says he has released now after being on the end of an attempted blackmail.

He told Rolling Stone that Scott had worked on an unfinished demo of the song before his death, which an unknown individual had been able to secure, and had threatened to leak online unless Noah handed over $2,000.

Listen to the song below:

Writing on Instagram, Noah said: “Can’t believe i’m saying this right now but basically i been getting blackmailed by a random number that somehow has a very old version of a song i have with my father.”

“And because of that i am basically forced to release a song i had no intentions of releasing until way further into my career cause this coward rly thinks i’m about to send them $2k to not leak it. sooo, i beat em to the punch.. funny enough, i saw ‘TIME WILL TELL’ written on a bathroom wall the day i got that txt, maybe my dad thought it was time?”

He then told Rolling Stone that he is “almost positive” that he knows who the blackmailer is. “And if I’m correct then it’s one of my old best friends who’s super jealous of me, so I’d rather just let them sit back and watch”.

Earlier this year, Noah refuted the claim that he is a “trust fund baby”. Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: “I always get annoyed when people say that type of stuff. My dad was millions in debt when he died. My mom has always worked a normal job. And truthfully, even if my dad’s estate ever does get out of debt, I don’t even want that money. I want to make a career out of myself as much as possible.”

Noah was in rock band Suspect208 for a short time, a rock star ‘supergroup’ made up of Slash’s son London Hudson on drums and Robert Trujillo’s son Tye on bass. He was later dropped from the band for alleged drug use and went solo, releasing the alt-pop single ‘Yesterday’ late last year.

Meanwhile, back in 2021, it was announced that Scott Weiland’s memoir Not Dead & Not For Sale is set to be adapted into a film titled Paper Heart. The film was picked up after production house Dark Pictures and producer Orian Williams acquired the book rights to the 2011 memoir, which Weiland penned with David Ritz.

The film will tell the story of Scott’s life, including his battles with addiction and his various comebacks.

Paramore’s Hayley Williams says she’s “so ready” to tour with Taylor Swift, praises ‘The Tortured Poets Department’

The band will hit the road with Swift next month for the European, UK and Ireland leg of the ‘Eras Tour’

Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams has said she is “so ready” for the band’s upcoming support slots with Taylor Swift, while praising the singer’s new album.

Williams and co. are due to join Swift on the European, UK and Ireland leg of her huge ‘Eras Tour’, which kicks off next month. They previously opened for the pop star at select North American dates last year.

Yesterday (April 22) Williams took to Instagram Stories to share various albums she had been listening to lately, including Swift’s 11th studio effort ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.

Writing under the cover artwork for the extended ‘Anthology’ edition of the record, she said: “Had me from the storytelling alone, my friend.”

Williams continued: “Every one of us knows this kind of grief! It’s so impressive to me how specific and colourful Taylor’s words get without ever losing the universal thread.”

The singer concluded by saying she was “so ready to be tour-mates” with Swift once again. You can see a screenshot of the post below.

Williams, whose band were ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024, also shared some words on albums by the likes of Radiohead, Beyoncé, The Smile and Idles.

The frontwoman first met Swift when they were both up for the Best New Artist award at the Grammys 2008. Last year, the pair collaborated on the song ‘Castles Crumbling’ from ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’.

In December 2023, Williams reflected on how Paramore and Swift were still going strong after breaking through “at the same time”.

“To be able to play with an artist like her for me represents how long we’ve been at this, and how much shit we’ve seen,” she explained. “Now, it’s time to have a fun summer.”

The 2024 UK and Ireland leg of the ‘Eras Tour’ will see Swift and Paramore play eight dates at Wembley Stadium in London this summer.

In other news, Swift has shared the meanings of her lyrics from ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ in a new track-by-track commentary. The pop star also wrote a special ‘From The Desk Of’ letter in celebration of Record Store Day 2024.

Ozzy Osbourne reacts to “special” Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction

The singer previously said he was not “not expecting to get in”

NME

Ozzy Osbourne has reacted to his induction to the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, calling the nod “special”.

Yesterday (April 22) saw the Rock Hall announce the inductees for this year’s class, which consists of 16 acts and figures in the music industry.

Osbourne appears on the list alongside the likes of Cher, Mary J. BligeDave Matthews BandA Tribe Called Quest, Peter FramptonForeigner and Kool & The Gang.

He has previously been inducted as part of Black Sabbath, but had been snubbed as a solo musician for years before being nominated in February.

Writing on Instagram, Osbourne said: “Thank You @RockHall Voters & Fans for this induction.

My solo career, has been a much larger part of my overall music career as a whole, so this feels more special. Not bad for a guy who was fired from his last band. #ozzy #rockhall #rockandroll #rocknroll #rockandrollhalloffame #halloffame #rockhall2024.”

During an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show last November, the singer’s wife and manager Sharon called for him to be considered for a Rock Hall induction as a soloist. “They know that Ozzy deserves to be there,” she said (via Billboard).

“They know he’s been a solo artist. You’ve gotta be doing it for 24 years. He’s been 43 years as a solo artist. He sold nearly a hundred million albums as a solo artist. So where is he? Induct him!”

She went on to say that she and Ozzy had attended a dinner for the 2023 Rock Hall inductees: “And people were saying to Ozzy, ‘Oh, you’ve been inducted in’, and we were like, ‘No, actually. We were just invited for the food, so we’re here’. That’s as near as we’ve got, but no.”

But Sharon said she would “never beg” for Ozzy to be inducted, adding: “And I will never ask for favours. I’ve never asked anyone for a favour. So, my thing is fuck you if you don’t realise that somebody really deserves to be here. And you don’t recognise that? Then, see ya!”

Taking to social media yesterday, Sharon said: “Thank you to all of you who voted!! This means the world to Ozzy!!! .” See that post below.

Responding to his eventual nomination earlier this year, Ozzy wrote: I’m deeply honored to receive this news from the @RockHall. To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined.

“After 44 years as a solo artist the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of.”

However, Ozzy later explained that he was “not expecting to get in” to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this year. “I’m up against some serious people,” he said. “If I get in, I get in. If I don’t, I don’t.”

The Rock Hall’s class of 2024 will be inducted during a ceremony held in Cleveland, Ohio on October 19.

Ozzy said last November that he had to “accept the fact” that a live return may not be possible owing to his ongoing health issues, including Parkinson’s disease and a recovery from multiple surgeries.

This January, however, Sharon revealed that Ozzy was planning “two more shows to say goodbye” before he fully retires from performing.

Ozzy Osbourne recently said he was “dying to make more music” with producer Andrew Watt. The pair worked together on the star’s latest two albums, 2020’s ‘Ordinary Man’ and 2022’s ‘Patient Number 9’.

Garbage’s Shirley Manson on when their label once chose to invest in No Doubt over them: “It was devastating”

“He told me this story, and then it was war. I wasn’t going to do fuck all for that record label ever again”

The post Garbage’s Shirley Manson on when their label once chose to invest in No Doubt over them: “It was devastating” appeared first on NME.

NME

Garbage‘s Shirley Manson has opened up on the “devastating” time that their label once chose to invest in No Doubt over them.

Manson sat down with NME to discuss the reissue of the band’s divisive 2005 album ‘Bleed Like Me’. “To be frank, I never had a particularly good relationship with that record until relatively recently,” Manson told NME. “We released it at a time of immense strife within the band, and dwindling interest from our record label and the general public.”

She also opened up about the choice that their label made to invest in No Doubt rather than Garbage. Manson shared that she had “a fortunate or unfortunate incident” on a flight from Los Angeles to London, when she was sat next to “a really famous rockstar” who let slip that Interscope had prioritised Gwen Stefani and co. over her band.

“I shan’t name [said rockstar] because I don’t want to cause too many ruptures,” she began. “He’s really gorgeous and I love this person, but we got drunk together and he told me that he’d been present at an Interscope meeting where our future as a band had been discussed and there was a vote taken at the table where they decided if they were going to spend money on No Doubt or on Garbage. They decided to invest in No Doubt.

“No Doubt are friends of ours, we love them dearly and this has no bearing on them whatsoever, but to hear that from a well-known and highly regarded rockstar was devastating. He told me this story, and then it was war. I wasn’t going to do fuck all for that record label ever again.”

Manson explained how this led to a feeling of the industry only seeing space for one “female-fronted rock band” on the scene.

“We were meeting the same resistance at radio stations too; they were also saying, ‘Well we’ll be playing No Doubt, we won’t be playing Garbage’,” she recalled. “The domino effect was devastating. It caused us to turn in on each other because we were so frustrated.

“We couldn’t really move anywhere and we felt like we were playing with our hands tied behind our backs. That will drive a person insane, and it did. We all went mad and we took the pressure out on each other. It caused a lot of heartbreak.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Manson opened up about how it felt to be told that ‘There’s no room for you’.

“It was devastating,” she said. “‘There’s no seat at the table’, was what we were being told. Yet we were still expected to fullfil our contract and to go around the world on tour to garner an audience for the record. It was soul-destroying. We all knew there was no point to it. If your label does not give a shit about you then the rest of the world is not going to give a shit about you.”

The reissue of ‘Bleed Like Me’ is out now. In other news, the band are set to embark on a UK and European headline tour which will kick off this summer. Check out the full list of tour dates below and visit here to purchase tickets.

Green Day offered a taster for their upcoming ‘Saviors’ world tour by playing their seminal albums ‘Dookie’ and ‘American Idiot’ in full at an intimate club show in Los Angeles.

The trio played both albums, as they are set to do on their forthcoming stadium tour, at the Echoplex in LA on Thursday (April 18). Their mammoth 35-song set also included songs from their recent album, which came out in January, as well as a surprise encore of ‘Minority’ and new cut ‘Fancy Sauce’ which wasn’t listed on the printed setlist.

Green Day played ‘Dookie’ from top to bottom first, followed by five songs from ‘Saviors’ – ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’, ‘Bobby Sox’, ‘Look Ma, No Brains!” ‘Dilemma’ and ‘Saviors’. They followed this with an airing of ‘American Idiot’ in full.

Their stadium tour will commemorate the 30th and 20th anniversaries of ‘Dookie’ and ‘American Idiot’ respectively.

The UK and European dates will kick off at the LDLC Arena in Décines-Charpieu, France on June 5, 2024. Throughout June the band will also hit cities like Madrid, Berlin, Milan, Paris and more. Then the UK and Ireland leg will start on June 21 at the Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford, with further dates in Glasgow, Dublin and a massive Wembley Stadium date in London on June 29.

Nothing But ThievesThe Hives, Donots, The Interrupters and Maid Of Ace are set to join as support across select dates.

The North American leg will kick off at Nationals Park in Washington, DC on July 29, 2024, before visiting cities like New York, Philadelphia, Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles and many more, closing out Petco Park in San Diego, California on September 28. You can get any remaining tickets here.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Green Day performed ‘Basket Case’ with its original demo lyrics –  upon receiving an award from Avril Lavigne. They surprised the audience by singing the lines: “They said this has been emotionless flight / Around each other intoxicating their minds / Dancing in the street under suburban lights / They stumbled to the ground without a hurt.” Previously, Armstrong admitted he rewrote these lyrics, calling them “embarrassingly bad”.

Sprints issue statement after singer Karla Chubb sexually assaulted at show: “Shame on you. Do better”

“Female performers should be able to engage with their audience, step off the stage or perform without fear of groping, unwanted touching, cat-calling and harassment”

The post Sprints issue statement after singer Karla Chubb sexually assaulted at show: “Shame on you. Do better” appeared first on NME.

NME

Sprints have issued a statement after frontwoman Karla Chubb was sexually assaulted at a  show.

The band addressed the situation on Sunday (April 21), explaining that this was the second time during their ongoing tour that an incident like this has occurred. The Dublin rockers’ have been on a world tour tour since February in support of their debut album ‘Letter To Self’.

“Yesterday Karla was sexually assaulted for the second time on the ‘Letter To Self’ tour. The fact that this has occurred twice is abhorrent, the fact that it still happens at all is disgusting. We will not stand for it and we will not be silent about it,” began their statement.

They continued: “Female performers should be able to engage with their audience, step off the stage or perform without fear of groping, unwanted touching, cat-calling and harassment. The fact that this is still an everyday occurrence for most women is beyond reprehensible.

“To those who noticed and called out the behaviour yesterday, thank you. To those of you responsible for the behaviour, shame on you. Do better.”

Sprints are set to wrap up their tour within the next two weeks. They are currently making their way through Ireland with their next gig taking place on April 25 at Coughlans in Cork. Check out a full list of remaining tour dates below and visit here for any last minute remaining tickets.

Sprints 2024 ‘Letter To Self’ Ireland tour dates are:

APRIL
25 – Cork, Ireland, Coughlans
26 – Listowel, Ireland, Mike The Pies

MAY
3 – Dublin, Ireland, Button Factory
4 – Dublin, Ireland, Button Factory

In a five-star review of ‘Letter To Self’NME wrote: “Yet for all its heavy-hitting subject matter, the beauty in ‘Letter To Self’ is the optimism it leaves you with, the noise well and truly drowning out the pain in an empowering fashion. O’Reilly’s dynamic guitar lines battle against the lyrics, keeping things upbeat in the likes of ‘Literary Mind’ and maintaining the dramatic flair on the eerie ‘Shaking Their Hands.’

“This is a dynamic album that is reflective of the muddled world we find ourselves in – delivered with a fortifying sense of honesty from an essential emerging band.”

In other news, Sprints were one of the Irish bands to have pulled out of SXSW 2024 in solidarity with Palestine.
